Defragmentierung (Defragmentation), 2006

Performance, 1 x 7,5 hrs

School of Art and Design Kassel (D)

In Defragmentierung I glue about 3200 photos on top of each other within 7.5 hrs time and in the transit area of a staircase. The photos are film stills which, as individual images, represent the moment that occurs during the performance itself: Me glueing pictures. Defragmentierung is compression and, with it, a reordering at the same time.

"Once a young man came to me and asked me where the toilets were. I did not answer. He would ask me several times. Still, I did not answer. Then he touched me as if to make sure I was real."
(From a written record I made after the performance.)
